Stories Behind the Uniform Circle of Return with Veteran Rites / Heroes Homestead

  • Tacoma Nature Center 1919 South Tyler Street Tacoma, WA, 98405 United States (map)

Who is the whole person and loved one behind the uniform?

What’s my purpose?

Where do I belong to share my stories and gifts?

Veteran Rites, in partnership with Heroes Homestead invites our community to a special Circle of Return at the Tacoma Nature Center on Wednesday, September 24th, from 10:30am to 1:30pm.

This gathering invites Veterans, Service Members, and thier Families to come together for a few hours to enjoy a Guided Nature Walk by the Nature Center, banter over lunch & music provided by Veteran Rites, then invite Veterans and Service Members with thier families to paint, paste, or by whatever artistic means tell the story of service and the whole person behind the uniform with a helmet as your canvas.

We will bear witness to each other’s story and the whole person behind the uniform. Your story and helmet will then go on display in service to the Northwest Musuem of Arts and Culture in Spokane where it will join other helmets and stories as representing an essential thread that weaves the wildly diverse fabric of our nation’s history together.

After some time you will recieve the helmets back after having been witnessed in Spokane.

This event is hosted by Jessica Gorée, Jamo Gaines, and Ryan Mielcarek of Veteran Rites Leadership. All Veterans who have found their post-service Identity, Purpose, and Belonging through healing power of nature and creativity (even if they aren’t good at it!)

We have 12 helmets and those brining thier partners, spouses, and children can enlist thier family unit to share thier part of the service-members story.
