Veteran Rites has been selected to host one Washington Vet Corps member for the 2026 to 2027 AmeriCorps service term. We are moving quickly, and we are looking for the right person to serve at the intersection of connection, outreach, resource navigation, community education, and meaningful storytelling.

This is more than a line on a resume. It is a full-time year of service for someone ready to help Veterans and military-connected people find their way toward identity, purpose, belonging, and a fuller return home.

The member will represent Veteran Rites in the community, build relationships, help people connect with resources through approved pathways and staff support, care for continuity across our wider circle, recruit and supervise volunteers, organize at least three service projects, record clear activity and impact information, and help tell the truth of this work with clarity and heart.

We are seeking someone grounded, capable, relational, and ready to carry responsibility. Prior connection to Veteran Rites is welcome, but not required. Veterans, military spouses, and military family members receive priority consideration under the program.

The service term runs September 16, 2026 through July 31, 2027. The commitment is full time, approximately 40 hours per week and 1,700 total hours. The monthly living allowance is $1,942, with health coverage, an education award of up to $7,395, and other eligible AmeriCorps benefits.

Veteran Rites is selecting one Washington Vet Corps Community Engagement Member for the 2026 to 2027 AmeriCorps service term.

This is a full-time year of service for someone who understands, or is ready to learn, what it means to help Veterans and military-connected people find connection, resources, purpose, and belonging after service. The right person will meet people where they are, represent Veteran Rites in the community, and help our work reach beyond the circle without losing its center.

We are looking for a grounded human being with initiative, follow-through, humility, and a clear voice. Someone who can build trust across difference, communicate with care, tell meaningful stories, honor protocols, and carry responsibility without needing to be chased. Someone willing to grow while serving alongside a passionate, highly collaborative team.

What the member will do

· Build direct connection with Veterans, military families, alumni, partners, and community members.

· Represent Veteran Rites at outreach events, resource fairs, tabling opportunities, and community gatherings.

· Help people navigate relevant resources and make warm, appropriate referrals using approved pathways and staff oversight; promptly elevate complex, urgent, clinical, or safety-sensitive needs to Veteran Rites staff.

· Support caring contacts and community continuity through approved check-ins, recognition, and follow-up practices.

· Create and coordinate clear, human-centered stories and digital content which help people understand the work and how to engage.

· Recruit and supervise volunteers for approved special events and organize at least three service projects which foster community support.

· Record agreed-upon counts and brief service notes for peer contacts, referrals, outreach, volunteer participation, and service projects using Veteran Rites-approved tools and privacy practices, so required impact reporting is accurate.

· Learn alongside Veteran Rites programs and practices through approved observation, training, and professional development.

IMPORTANT ROLE BOUNDARY

This is not a clinical role and not a ceremonial Guide position. The member will not independently assess clinical needs or facilitate rites or ceremonies as a core responsibility. The member’s service centers community engagement, staff-guided resource navigation and referrals, direct connection, education, volunteer engagement, and impact communication.

Priority

Open to eligible applicants. Veterans, military spouses, and military family members receive priority consideration. This is separate from minimum eligibility; eligible applicants do not need prior military service.

Who should consider serving

· A person with lived understanding of military or Veteran communities, whether through service, family, partnership, or meaningful community connection.

· A strong communicator who can speak with people, write clearly, and use digital tools without flattening human stories.

· A person who is organized, dependable, able to receive feedback, and willing to follow safety, privacy, communication, and approval protocols.

· A person ready for a demanding full-time service year and able to sustain themselves with the stated living allowance and available benefits.

· A person who can reliably travel to the designated Washington service site and community activities. A vehicle is strongly recommended.

Step 1: Apply directly to Veteran Rites (AUG 11)

Go to the VR VetCorps Interest Form by Tuesday, August 11th at 5pm PST and:

· Answer the five screening questions.

Answer honestly from the experience you have. If you have not faced the exact situation described, share a comparable experience or explain how you would approach it. We do not expect you to stretch the truth to fit a question.

1. Why are you drawn to a year of service with Veteran Rites? What do identity, purpose, belonging, and coming home mean to you in this context?

2. Tell us about a time you built trust with someone whose experience, identity, or worldview differed from your own. What did you do, and what did you learn?

3. Describe a time you represented a group, organization, or cause in public. How did you communicate its purpose through conversation, writing, digital media, or storytelling?

4. Give an example of a responsibility you carried with limited day-to-day direction. How did you organize the work, follow through, respond to feedback, and keep others informed?

5. Please speak directly to your practical readiness. Can you serve full time from September 16, 2026 through July 31, 2027, commute reliably within Washington, complete required screening and training, and sustain yourself with a $1,942 monthly living allowance? What do you hope to learn, and what support helps you do your best work?

Step 2: Submit the official AmeriCorps application (AUG 15)
